As the Millennium Development Goals move toward the Sustainable Development Goals,
the importance of international partnerships and cooperation is more pronounced than ever before.
In addition, as discussed during the G-20 summit, a space for sharing knowledge and information is essential for effective development and growth.
Accordingly, an information platform within the water security field would be an effective and important tool for securing water security and sustainable water management in developing countries.
The Republic of Korea is one of the few countries that managed to transform from a recipient country of development assistance,
to a donor country in a short period of 50 years. Particularly, the experiences and knowhows that have accumulated over time are being consistently transferred to developing countries.
In addition, there is growing demand from developing countries that are vulnerable to water issues due to climate change,
and thus the importance of sharing information and knowledge on water management in Korea is becoming increasingly important.
Therefore, the UNESCO i-WSSM will build a water security information platform to help sustainable development and growth in developing countries vulnerable to water security
and management through continuous sharing information and knowledge and cooperation.
The UNESCO i-WSSM will seek to establish cooperation with other international organizations for effective water security support,
to share information and knowledge through on-line and off-line, and to build databases such as human resource data, technical information and achievement data.
